If we said it once, we said it twice: This is the Year of the Dunks. And we’d be lying if we said that we don’t like them all! However, the gift of 2020 Dunks keeps on giving and we’re getting new favorites every other day. And today’s favorites are the Grateful Dead Nike SBs! The upcoming sneakers are surely going to put you in a colorful mood.
But First, A Furry History.
Before the Grateful Dead Nike collab, there was a fairytale. So, this fairy tale inspired three Nike SB Dunks into production! The 1837 fairy tale includes three bears and a little girl. And the three Dunks were all about the bears in 2006, although we would’ve loved to see Goldilocks. The pack consisted of a low, a mid, and a high-top pair! The faux fur gave the kicks a very extra vibe! And speaking of extra, their average resale values are as extra as their designs, if not flat out weird!

Grateful Dead Nike Dunks: Bear’s Choice
Now we all know, or at least have seen the dancing bears! These famous bears are the album art of 1973’s “History of the Grateful Dead”. Although there are five different bears on the cover, we’re only getting three! The three Grateful Dead Nike Dunk Lows feature the same suede and faux fur uppers. However, the different colorways are Orange/Green, Green/Blue, Yellow/Light Blue. They’re all inspired by the bears on the artwork. The question is, will we be lucky enough to witness the release of the two remaining bears? You can also find the dancing bears on the insoles! Finally, the hidden stash pocket completes the punkish look of the kicks!

The orange Grateful Dead Nike Dunk dropped on July 18, 2020. Don’t feel bad if you didn’t cop yet though, it was an extremely exclusive release! The kicks dropped exclusively at FTC skate shop via e-mail raffle! A special entry required sneakerheads to answer the following question: “What does FTC stand for?” The answer is “For The City” as you’ll see on their Instagram picture! The winners got to pick up their pairs from the physical FTC store too. So unless you’re near the physical store, your entry was a waste.
